Apr 3: Memory, Conflict and Democratization in Post-Junta Greece – A special online lecture with Dr. Kostis Kornetis
On April 3 at 7:30pm, Pharos is looking forward to a special, online-only lecture with Dr. Kostis Kornetis, visiting from the Autonomous University of Madrid. The topic is Memory, Conflict & Democratization in Post-Junta Greece.
This talk discusses how distinct political generations experienced and remember the transition from authoritarianism to democracy in Greece, known as Metapolitefsi, since 1974. Its central claim is that the 2008-2012 economic and social crisis triggered a radical re-evaluation of democratization by turning the conflicting generational recollections of these events into pivotal components of present political contestation.
Kostis Kornetis teaches contemporary history at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). He has taught at Brown University, New York University, and the University of Sheffield, and was CONEX-Marie Curie Experienced Fellow at Carlos III, Madrid, and Santander Fellow in Iberian Studies at St. Antony’s College, Oxford.
We’re very grateful to have Dr. Kornetis with us, and hope to see you there! This talk is offered via Zoom for free, at the following coordinates:
