Jan 30: A Conversation in Film with Harry Killas, maker of Aristotle’s Lagoon and Greek to Me

Please join us for a free illustrated lecture and photographic exhibition on Monday, January 30th at 7:30pm Pacific Time, in-person at the Hellenic Community Centre in the Upper Hall at 4500 Arbutus Street, with Vancouver-born and Greek-Canadian filmmaker Harry Killas.

Vancouver-born and Greek-Canadian filmmaker Harry Killas has directed many documentary films with a local historical approach. He has made two films, strongly inflected with Greek histories and themes: Aristotle’s Lagoon and Greek to Me, which will inform most of his talk.

Harry will talk about his process and career, illustrated with well-chosen clips from his films.

About Harry Killas

Harry Killas is a Canadian director, writer and producer whose films have screened at major international festivals including Bilbao, Clermont-Ferrand, Oberhausen, Palm Springs, Torino, Toronto, and Vancouver. His documentaries have screened at festivals and museums across Canada and internationally, and have been broadcast by BBC, BBC Worldwide, Bravo!, CBC, CTV affiliates, Knowledge, NHK, SCN, TVO, and many European broadcasters. Recent credits include three feature-length documentaries: Is There A Picture, on the first generation of the Vancouver School of photo-conceptual artists; Greek to Me, an autobiographical look at Greek ethnicity, family, filmmaking; and Superkids 2, a profile of highly gifted learners, filmed over a time span of 15 years. Harry is a graduate of Stanford University (A.M., A.B.) and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Graduate School of Film and Television (M.F.A.) He resides in Vancouver where he is Associate Professor, Film + Screen Arts, at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
